The Meta’s VR social platform, Horizon Worlds, has reached 300,000 users. Horizon Worlds is Meta’s biggest bet in terms of the company’s future. It is their take on the metaverse and, as Zuckerberg called it, “core to their metaverse vision.”

Meta and its growth with Horizon Worlds

Chris Cox, the company’s chief product officer, revealed the platform’s user growth during a virtual meeting. Since its launch back in late 2021, Horizon’s user base has grown by a factor of 10x to 300,000 people.

Meta spokesperson Joe Osborne confirmed the user numbers. He further added that these stats include users of Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues, the latter being a separate app attending live events in VR. The stats also don’t include Horizon Workrooms, a VR conferencing platform.

Meta’s VR social platform allows users to build their own worlds similar to Minecraft and Roblox. The company recently announced that users had made 10,000 separate worlds in Horizon Worlds. They also plan on bringing Horizon to smartphones later this year.

“So while the deepest and most immersive experiences are going to be in virtual reality, you’re also going to be able to access the worlds from your Facebook or Instagram apps as well, and probably more over time.”

Mark Zuckerberg

Horizon Worlds is growing rapidly, but it is too early to tell if it will continue to show such growth in the future. It directly competes with popular VR platforms like VR chat and Rec Room. With the latter having 37 million monthly users.
