Should You Play Baldur's Gate 3 Now Or Wait For The Full Release?

The newest edition of the iconic BG series, Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t quite like its brethrens, you know. And, it’s definitely an excellent thing in my opinion. If I had to say it a little clearer, I’ve literally bought and am playing the game right now for that very reason.

But, should you do the same? Or, will it be better for you to wait until the game is released to its entirety? Let’s talk about it a little.

Baldur’s Gate 3 – What’s New?

Almost everything, to be honest. For example, the previous games came with a real-time with pause combat system to integrate the squad-level tactics properly.

But, Larian has tried something new and implemented their own classic turn-based system to make it easier to cope with. So, the more “initiative” you have, the quicker you attack.

Also, the skill system has changed a little too.

Now, you can access them directly with a single tap and click on where you want to unleash it. In my opinion, it’s a lot more convenient and easy to use.

However, the negotiation system has stayed the same. No matter what your persuasion level is, if you’re not lucky, you’ll end up losing in the conversation.

So, I kinda hate it. But, Larian wanted to keep the classic as it is. So, I’m not going to talk too much about it as of yet. Anyway, apart from that, the class system has changed a little too. In this game, you can play about ten different classes although a few of them are yet to come.

Overall, it feels quite a breath of fresh air in my opinion. But, the game might unsettle people who are too used to the classic Dungeons And Dragons’ style of gameplay.

Why Should You Play It Now?

Now, this is me talking from my own viewpoint. You might feel that I’m being biased. But, no; that’s not it. I’ll only share my experience here and tell you why you should play it now.

There’s no need to buy it though. You can get it on a torrent website, like the Pirate Bay. It’s available for free. So, no need to “waste” your money and all that.

Reason – 1: To Get A Feel To It.

As of now, Baldur’s Gate 3 only has a single act. That’s about 25-30 hours of gameplay. But, here’s the catch. The game feels much more fleshed out than anything else.

The bugs have been removed quite efficiently. Around five classes are available now. So, you can try out each of them and see what ticks your switch.

And, finally, there are loads of secrets and consequences of choices to unfold. Hence, just one playthrough isn’t going to be enough in this aspect.

Reason – 2: For A Classic, Larian-Style D&D Experience.

Although it’s Larian, they have decided to keep some classic yet choicest D&D experiences in the game. And, they’re quite amazing, in my opinion.

For example, the graphical style follows the same dark tone as the previous games. It feels a little too gritty sometimes, in my opinion. But, I think most people will love it.

And, finally, it follows a fresh new story in the same area of the Forgotten Realm. Therefore, if you have played the series before, you might get a sense of nostalgia while gaming.

Why Should You Avoid It For Now?

In my opinion, if you’re into CRPG, Baldur’s Gate will be right up your alley. However, even though I’m quite biased towards it, I can see why you might not want to play the game.

Reason – 1: It’s An Unfinished Product.

Although it’s great and all, Baldur’s Gate is still unfinished. Apart from the limited gameplay, you might find a bug or two here and there as well. Also, not everyone in the game has been voiced yet. So, that might feel like a void for you too.

Reason – 2: It Might Crash, Sometimes.

The game is good enough for playing. However, as it’s still in development, the title may feel a little unstable at the beginning. If you’re not playing on a high-end PC, it might crash once or twice as well. And, I’m pretty sure you’re not going to like it. Not. One. Bit.

The Final Say!

For your own experience, I’ll ask you to avoid playing the game for now. Wait for a while, let it be released to its full force, then purchase it. Meanwhile, try to stay away from any related community. We’re pretty loud and love to spoil a thing or two sometimes. So, yeah.
