Xiaomi revealed the next major update to its Android skin known as MIUI 12. The massive MIUI 12 update comes with a lot of new features and big changes such as new animations, UI adjustments to the addition of a 3D animated wallpaper style, privacy tools, new navigation gestures and more.
At the time of writing, Xiaomi hasn’t launched MIUI 12 globally. But recent reports indicate that MIUI 12 Global launch is scheduled for May 12th. Irrespective of the launch date, it’s safe to assume that the latest MIUI 12 update will take a lot of time to roll-out on all the Xiaomi devices.
How To Get MIUI 12 On Your Xiaomi Device?
1. Get into the MIUI 12 Beta program
This is one of the fastest and efficient ways to get the MIUI 12 before the OTA (Over-the-Air) update roll-out. Xiaomi recently opened up recruitment for MIUI 12 pilot program for India and global users.
Members will get to use MIUI 12 Global Beta ROMs long before it is rolled out to stable users. The team members will also be able to play with MIUI 12 features before everyone else. The MIUI 12 Pilot program, for now, is only available for the Redmi K20 series users in India and Mi 9 series Global users.
Registering for the beta program requires joining this Telegram group and filling this Google forum. Xiaomi will select a few participants and give them special OTA permissions for MIUI 12 global beta builds.
Bear in mind the MIUI 12 updates will be pre-builds, which means they will include several bugs and glitches.
2. Download MIUI 12 Beta ROMs
Not everyone, of course, will be able to get into the MIUI 12 beta program. Others waiting for the MIUI 12 OTA update can install the beta builds available online.
As the MIUI 12 Global launch yet to arrive, users will have to make do with MIUI 12 China Beta ROMs, which won’t necessarily have Google Play services and will be available in English and Chinese only. On the bright side, users will be getting MIUI 12 way before their peers and will witness unreleased features of MIUI 12.
Installing an MIUI 12 beta ROM is no different from trying out a custom ROM on a Xiaomi device. In essence, you first need to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery if you haven’t already, and, finally, flash the MIUI 12 beta file.
3. OTA update
Once the MIUI 12 global version is live, Xiaomi will start rolling out OTA (Over-the-air) updates. However, keeping the current roll-out schedule as a reference, several Xiaomi devices will likely get the MIUI 12 update in the third quarter of this year.
There is always an option to buy the latest Xiaomi phone, which will guarantee you get the MIUI 12 update at the earliest.
